Das erste große Sammelwerk von Grosz, das ihm und seinen Verlegern Gumpert und Herzfelde gleich eine Anklage wegen Verbreitung von unzüchtigen Bildern einbrachte. "Grosz hat mit dieser Mappe schonungslos die bürgerliche Moral, die Heuchelei und Scheinheiligkeit, die abgefeimten Praktiken des kapitalistischen Alltags enthüllt. Wegen Angriffs auf die öffentliche Moral wurde der Künstler vor Gericht gestellt und zu 6000 Mark Strafe verurteilt" (Lang).
Exemplar der Ausgabe C. - Titel mit Widmung vom 21. Februar 1924 an den von Grosz geschätzten Satiriker Karl Kraus, oder alternativ an einen nicht recherchierbaren "Karl Kroms" - beide Lesarten sind möglich, die erstere wahrscheinlicher als die zweite.
EINBAND: Illustrierter Orig.-Büttenkarton. 36,5 : 26,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 84 Lithographien und 16 Aquarellen von G. Grosz. - ZUSTAND: Einbd. leicht fleckig und stellenw. mit kl. Randläsuren.
