Goethe hatte der jungen Blumau eine Stelle an der Weimarer Bühne vermittelt, nachdem sie ihm am 23. Mai 1804 einen dringlichen Bittbrief geschrieben hatte. Sie wurde am 31. Juli 1804 für dreieinhalb Jahre engagiert, erbrachte aber nicht die erhofften schauspielerischen Leistungen und verließ das Theater ein Jahr vor Ablauf des Vertrags.
