Erste deutsche Ausgabe. - Sehr umfangreiche Folge des bekannten Werkes in einem Exemplar auf besserem Papier (vgl. Anker). Bis auf die beiden fehlenden Supplementbände vollständige Ausgabe. - Aus dem Französischen übersetzt und mit Anmerkungen und Zusätzen vermehrt durch F. H. W. Martini (ab Bd. VII: B. C. Otto). - "One of the most valuabel of the many editions of this remarkable work .. The illustrations in the present edition are drawn from several sources, but most of them are prints from the plates of the original French treatise" (Wood). "One of the early and important landmarks in the history of ornithology" (Zimmer I, 104 zur franz. EA). - Die Tafeln in schönem sorgfältigem Kolorit, 4 Tafeln aus einem anderen Werk eingebunden. Das Gesamtwerk enthält 1683 Tafeln, die ersten 35 Bände sollten lt. Register 1575 Tafeln enthalten. - Rückenschilder und Rückenvergoldung leicht variierend. - Tls. schwach gebräunt (Bd. XXXV etw. stärker), Vorsätze und Tafeln (überwieg. in Bd. XV) im ob. R. mit Eintragungen von alter Hd., 1 Tafel gelöst, wenige Taf. mit Farbabklatsch, sehr vereinz. mit leichten Farbverwischungen (überwieg. in Bd. XIX), 1 Taf. in Bd. XXV aus einem anderen Werk eingebunden. Einbde. berieben, Deckel tls. mit kl. Schabspuren (1 mit kl. Wurmgang). Ungewöhnlich vollständiges Werk in dekorativen zeitgenössischen Einbänden.

First German edition. With 18 colored engr. fronstisp., 35 colored engr. title vignettes by D. Chodowiecki and 1585 colored copper plates. Contemp. calf with 2 labels and rich floral gilt spine and 2 labels in colors. 19,5 : 12,5 cm. - Very comprehensive series of the famous works in a copy on better paper (cf. Anker). Complete except for lacking supplement volumes. - Plates in fine and neat coloring, 4 plates from a different work bound in. The complete work comprises 1683 plates, according to the register, the first 35 vols. contain 1575 plates. - Labels and gilt tooling on spine slightly varying. - Slightly browned in places (vol. XXXV somewhat stronger), endpapers and plates (mostly in vol. XV) with entries by an old hand in upper margin, 1 plate loosened, few plates with offsetting, with isolated slight wiped spots (mostly in vol. XIX), 1 plate in vol. XXV bound in from another work. Bindings rubbed, boards with small isolated scraped spots (1 with small wormtrace). Unusually complete work in decorative contemp. binding.
