Inspired by the array of forms her husband Robert Delaunay created in his “Rhytmes“, Sonia Delaunay continues the subject and integrates it into almost all her works. In terms of their decorative two-dimensionality they are strongly determined by a color canon that would become so characteristic of her works. Sonia Delaunay works consistently in the surface that she arranges with her forms, thus creating a color composition that has its expressive value in the color component’s planar effect. She aims for a rhythmization of the image area, however, without dynamizing it like the Futurists did. [KD].
