Erste offizielle Ausgabe mit dem Bericht der beiden von Young auf eigene Kosten durchgeführten Polarreisen.
Der englische Seefahrer und Nordpolarforscher Sir Allen Young (1827-1915), war bereits Mitglied der 1857-59 durchgeführten Expedition F. L. McClintocks, er "zeichnete sich auf selbständigen Schlittentouren in der Küstenaufhellung hervorragend aus" (Henze). Die beiden hier beschriebenen selbstfinanzierten Polarreisen dienten der Bezwingung der Nordwestpassage, die zweite sollte eine Verbindung zur Nares-Expedition herstellen. 1876 erschien ein Privatdruck mit Beschreibung der ersten Reise. "Account, based on notes from the author's private journal, of the voyage in 1875 to Lancaster Sound, Barrow Strait, and Peel Sound, and that of 1876 to Smith Sound; with notes on ice of Melville Bay, Smith Sound and Canadian Arctic Waters, on West Greenland ports, and the Polar Eskimos" (Arctic Bibliography). Mit den beiden großen Karten North Polar chart with tracks of the 'Pandora' und Map of the countries bound the North Pole .
EINBAND: Neuer blauer Halbmaroquinband mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel. 25 : 17,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 9 Holzstich-Tafeln und 2 mehrfach gefalteten und farbig lithographierten Karten, beide Karten separat in Einstecktasche des Rückendeckels. - KOLLATION: VIII, 197 S. - ZUSTAND: Etw. stockfleckig. Beide Karten aufgezogen und mit mehreren kleinen Fehlstellen. Frontispiz rückseitig sowie weißes Vorblatt mit Bibliothekstempel ("Newcastle Highschool Library").

First official edition, Young had already published a privatly printed edition of the first voyage in 1876. With 9 wood-engraved plates and 2 folding lithographed maps, printed in colors, in rear pocket. Modern blue half morocco. - Slightly foxed. Maps laid down and with a few defective spots, 1 white leaf and frontispiece verso with stamp "Newcastle Highschool Library".R)
