The “Brücke“ painters discovered the paradisiac free life in nature during their summers at the Moritzburg Lakes near Dresden. During the year 1910 the three artists Kirchner, Heckel and Pechstein developed their characteristic sharp style in plein-air drawings, predominantly of nude studies. Works that were then executed in the studio, as it is the case with this lithograph "Drei Akte im Wasser", clearly resonance the atmosphere of these lighthearted summers. The seemingly easy work delivers proof of Kirchner's graphic skills, also on the litho stone. This copy of the "Drei Akte im Wasser" is the only copy of this rare lithograph in private possession and is now offered on the art market. Three other copies are in possession of public collections: the Kirchner Museum, Davos, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Graphic Collection at the State Gallery in Stuttgart. Another copy went into the ownership of the Kunstverein in Jena as part of a comprehensive donation from the artist (Botho-Graef-Foundation) in 1918, however, it was confiscated by the Nazis in context of the "degenerate art" act from 1937 and has been considered lost since.
